Every time you make an exhibition, you lose a friend

Opening: 29 February 17 – 19 hrs.
29 February – 28 March 2024

Every time you make an exhibition, you lose a friend is a quote by Julian Dashper from the youtube documentary film ‘Julian Dashper, My Space part 1 – 10’, 2010 by Simone Horrocks and Richard Flynn, where Julian talks about an exhibition he made at Sydney College of the Arts.
When a number of technicians who worked with Julian went to see the exhibition, they told him that they had gone to see the exhibition but that there was nothing there. Julian explained that it was open and that it was on, but then they explained to Julian what they saw, and Julian said, “yes, well that was the show”. And then Dashper continues with a broad smile on his face he says, “every time you make an exhibition, you lose a friend”.

Over the years, Julian's work and the exhibitions he made with it became more and more minimal. A logical development for the artist himself. Dashper's work is still in the spotlight worldwide and PS projectspace is very pleased to be able to show a group of four star paintings on canvas that have not previously been exhibited in the Netherlands.

In addition to the work by Julian Dashper (NZ) from 2000, the exhibition shows work with a comparable minimal concept by fellow artists Günther Förg (D) and Alan Uglow (UK).The exhibition Every time you make an exhibition, you lose a friend is an ode to the life and work of the three artists.

The filming of ‘Julian Dashper, My Space’ took place between June and October 2008, as Dashper travelled between Auckland, Sydney and Chicago. It was Dashper's wish that MY SPACE would be exhibited on YouTube.

The exhibition can be visited on Thursdays 14 – 17 hrs. and by appointment.
